Leadership and Staff

Pastor Eric Gates

My diverse background of service and life experiences, including Reconnaissance Marine in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years and Austin Police Officer for 9 years, helped build my foundation to be of service to others. I received my B.A. from Texas A&M University (College Station) in 1996 and my Master of Divinity degree from the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2012. After finding a relationship with God, I began to serve others in a new way as a spiritual director in alcohol and drug treatment centers in central Texas prior to my call as a minister in the church. Today, I work as a bi-vocational pastor. I am also the founder and owner of the Devil Dog Cold Brew coffee company in Buda, Texas.

Because I am a very uniquely gifted minister, I love the scripture from Romans 12:4-6, where it reads,

“For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us…”

We all need a spiritual home to belong to, a place where one can receive the blessings of care, nurture, faith, spiritual development, and meaningful relationships that are built upon empathy, compassion, and love for our neighbor. We hope you find your home here at Faith UCC.
